In an effort to support clients make breakthroughs in their mental well-being, M Malone counselling is offering counselling and supervision along with Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. I can offer a range of training courses to health and social care professionals. EMDR is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. EMDR is the most effective and rapid method for healing PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) as shown by extensive scientific research studies. This proven method of therapy has shown, people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that it once took years to make a difference. It may also be able to help treat other mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. I believe in providing a safe and secure therapeutic environment in which you feel you can freely work through the emotional distress which brought you to therapy.

As an Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapist I am a member of the EMDR Association UK and Ireland. I have completed my EMDR training and I’m currently working towards accreditation.
I am passionate about helping people unlock their potential and recover from self-limiting beliefs and distressing experiences. I have a compassionate and collaborative style and I therefore adopt an integrative approach to therapy. This allows clients to explore their thoughts and feelings at their own pace so they can make sense of, and find solutions to their issues in a non-judgemental, safe and confidential setting. It is important to me to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for people who are dealing with personal challenges and to build a comfortable and trusting relationship. I find it is important to offer various ways of working with people as my experiences have shown different people (and problems) benefit from different approaches.
Using a wide range of therapeutic skills, I tailor my approach to meet individual needs, with the aim of achieving greater understanding of the issues you are experiencing and exploring strategies to move forward. These skills come from a variety of different approaches including person-centred counselling, psychotherapy, Transactional Analysis (TA), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness practice.
I have worked with people in a supportive capacity for over 32 years. This experience has come from working in a range of NHS mental health/psychological well-being settings, GP clinics, schools, voluntary organisations, Rape Crisis Centres, drug treatment service (that specialise in counselling and therapeutic group work with children and young people where there was substance misuse within the family which impacted on them). I have also worked for ISAS an organisation specialising in counselling for Incest and Sexual Abuse Survivors and their families; for Charlotte's Rainbow a Bereavement Project for children offering group work and one to one work; Children’s social care and private practice counselling.
I believe everyone has the potential to move towards being an integrated, complete person and the first step in doing this is developing insight and understanding of the problem, whatever it is. From there, I will work alongside you to develop a tailored approach that will harness your strengths and give you the best chance to gain mastery over your mind, and therefore your life.
Currently, I am working in my private practice and for the NHS in Primary Care Mental Health, (Psychological Wellbeing Service (PWS) previously known as IAPT Huntingdon at Step 3) with clients with common mental health issues and those experiencing effects of trauma. My private practice is currently conducted online or over the telephone.
I have experience in long-term and short-term work with individuals, couples and group work. I work with adults, children and young people and I have a diverse range of clients from all walks of life. I offer an LGBTQI friendly service. I am committed to anti-discriminatory and equal opportunity practices and see this as integral to the way I work.
I provide clinical supervision to counsellors and professionals from a variety of settings.
As a BACP Registered and Accredited therapist and Registered Member of the EMDR Association UK and Ireland, I adhere to the strict ethical guidelines of my professional associations, which ensures the safety and well-being of my clients, as well as maintaining the on-going standard of my practice, supervision, and continuing professional development.

Making that initial call to a therapist is a big step and can cause a lot of anxiety and apprehension. You can contact me by calling, text or email. I endeavour to respond within 24hrs. I will respond by call so we can talk through what you want to gain from therapy and it gives you an opportunity to see if I'm the right fit for you.
Following our telephone consultation, if you are comfortable with me, we will book an assessment and begin our work together. Your first session will be an initial assessment session; this will be for 1 hour to an hour and a half depending on the treatment agreed at the point of consultation. This session will give us the opportunity to discuss what issues have brought you to therapy and what your expectations of therapy are. We will discuss the counselling contract on how I will provide my services and the expectations of you in our work. We will discuss the number and frequency of sessions, how any fees will be paid, what happens if you miss a session or are away on holiday, and I will also explain Confidentiality and note taking. You will also have an opportunity to ask me any questions you may have.
Choosing a therapist is an important step and this will give you the chance to decide if you are happy to work with me. If we both feel we connect and can work together, then we can arrange weekly sessions (recommended for continuity and consistency).
Each therapy session lasts 50 minutes. If you require a different frequency of sessions, other than weekly, this can be discussed at the assessment session. It is also important to say if you can’t work with me as it needs to feel right for you.
I work UK wide with appointments conducted via an online service such as Zoom or on the telephone.
Available to work with Employment assistant programmes, work place schemes and insurance companies.
All communications are confidential.
EMDR Therapy | Supervision | Counselling
Our past experiences can keep us in a recurring negative cycle, unable to move forward and fully enjoy our present experiences. Trauma can come in many guises; it may be the traumatic event is known or it could be that the root cause is yet to be uncovered. EMDR is used to enable you to work through these painful experiences and get to the root of the problems.
This therapy approach is perfect for any type of traumatic/distressing life event, including physical, sexual or emotional abuse, road traffic accidents, medical trauma, birth trauma, and sudden unexpected loss to name a few.
Registered Member of the EMDR Association UK and Ireland.
I provide clinical supervision to counsellors and professionals from a variety of settings. My approach to supervision is person centred and experiential which requires a collaborative perspective to enable reflection and conceptualisation, trusting the supervisee's internal power and resources. There is an assumption that the supervisee has the resources to successfully develop as a therapist. The supervisor is not seen as an expert in this model, but as a “collaborator” with the supervisee.
In this model of supervision, it focuses on the supervisee's personal and professional development, their responses to this and the relationships within their work. I provide a safe, confidential environment for the supervisee to do this. It is important for the supervisee to be able to reflect upon and discuss their practice openly and with confidence. It is about providing an environment whereby the supervisee can deepen their understanding of themselves, their clients, challenging professional issues that may arise and to unlock their own inner resources in order to integrate new skills into their professional practice.
This quote from Carl Rogers sums up what supervision means for me.
"I am most impressed with the fact that each human being has a directional tendency toward wholeness, toward actualisation of his or her potentialities......if I can provide the conditions that allow growth to occur, then this positive directional tendency brings about constructive results."
Carl Rogers, A Way of Being.
I am passionate about helping people unlock their potential and recover from self-limiting beliefs and distressing experiences Many things can get in the way of us experiencing a full and satisfying life, it could be for a variety of reasons. Regardless of the issue you are experiencing or your personal history, counselling or therapy can help. Sometimes the term "counselling" is used to refer to talking therapies in general, but counselling is also a type of therapy in its own right. I will discuss with you what issues you are experiencing and how they are affecting your life.
